The Latest and Greatest

Five enemas, three doses of light laxatives, two doses of heavy laxatives, and three days later - Lizzie is finally cleaned out - she would kill me for posting this, but since she is in la-la land I am just going to assume it's okay!

Lizzie is stable - we just have a few things to work out before we can come home. We have to figure out her meds...that is the big thing right now so we're hoping she'll stabilize on a dose so we can get her home and take care of her there. These are the medicines she'll be on for the rest of her life and one in particular is quite touchy so we are doing some experimenting.

Lizzie is pretty happy. I am amazed at the grace and cheerfulness in which she is handling her life here in the hospital. I know she's not all "there" yet, but still, she is amazing me with her patience and she is one tough little girl.

We have been watching a lot of movies, reading books, looking at picture albums playing with toys and going on walks. She spends 95% of her day in bed and has never seemed bored...she is often in her own little world and she won't even respond to us calling her name or trying to get her attention...we have to touch her to get her to respond to us at times. We read some books the other day and she can still sound out her words and read basic sight words that she has already learned.

It's kind of funny that her short term memory is not all there because she'll have a blood test or something else unpleasant and I'll say, "If you're really brave, I'll get you a Polly Pocket to play with." Little does she know that I've played that trick with the same polly pocket a few other times. I guess that's one bonus about her not having a good memory right now.

We are happy that she is showing improvements and we're happy she's so happy for most of the time. We have been so blessed.
