Waiting Game

They just wheeled Lizzie into surgery. We had our hopes up really high that the surgery would just be the minor one because the docs said her last CT scan looked like things were improving. But, no luck. They stopped improving and she now is having the major surgery. It's called a craniotomy where they take off some skull bone, clean out all the blood clots and then put the bone back on and stitch her back up.

Lizzie has been having a really hard time with all this because she is so aware of what's going on and feels all the pokes and pain. They can never find veins for her IV's so they have to hold her down and dig for veins while she's screaming bloody murder...it sucks. The last time we were here, we had the same problems, but she was having hallucinations and thought she was in St. George or somewhere nice and had no clue they were poking her half the time. They finally decided to sedate her and then poke her so she couldn't feel it.

She is still super sweet and we have had some tender moments with her. They made her fast before surgery and that was so hard for her. She was crying for food today and I bought her 3 packs of gum so she could chew today and when I gave them to her she said, "Can I share these with Spencer and Calli?" She is constantly thinking of others. She got a blanket at church yesterday and she immediately wanted to give it to Calli, which she did - she is such a good example of selflessness and a kind heart.

We may not be able to post after surgery because of how much she needs us, but we'll try. Thanks for the prayers, we have felt hope and happy today.

Carol, I'm so sorry you all have to go through this. I'm sure it is horribly hard for you to watch. You are in our prayers. It was nice to talk to you the other day:).

Wow! I didn't have a clue until Ben's message on facebook yesterday. We are there with you! The Lord is with you. I am going through chemo for breast cancer - started last week. The gospel means even more, the Plan of Salvation means even more, the Atonement means even more, prayers mean even more. May the Lord's peace with you, Liz and your family and friends. Thanx for sharing - Lynn & Cheryl
