Post-Surgery

So, our surgeon is a funny guy. He is Mr. Lack of Personality. Every time Liz has had surgery and we are waiting in the waiting room, he comes in with a total straight face and looks so depressed and I've thought every time, "Oh no, she's dead or maimed or something bad." So today I was fully expecting the same routine.

He comes in to the waiting room and actually smiles and waves and I thought, "Oh crap, she for sure died!" He then motions us to a private room for consultation (never done this either) so by then I was totally freaked out.

But then he told us the good news...she came through just fine and he said he was so glad they did the surgery because she really was plugged up with blood, fluid and clots. She will be in the PICU for a day or two and then she'll be able to recover in her regular room for the rest of the time.

We are truly so relieved, but she is not done with stuff yet. She now has to recover from this and then they will evaluate to see if she needs another shunt placement later this week or first of next week. We're hoping she won't, but we'll see. We are just hoping she'll be okay tonight and not be in too much pain.

Thank you for your fasting & prayers for Lizzie - miracles happen.

Mark your calendars for July 7th...if we are still here, we are going to have the biggest birthday bash any 6-year-old has ever seen here in the in the hospital. We're hoping she won't have to celebrate her b-day here, but we'll see.

The PICU kicks parents out periodically and so we can't be with her all the time so we'll update tomorrow AM.

I feel like I've ABANDONED you! I'm so sorry I didn't know any of this was happening! I've been slacking on the blog front. I'll get you on the prayer rotation ASAP. :)
I'm glad to hear she came through the surgery well and that it sounds like it was such a good move for her. Hopefully everything can get moving and draining the way it should in that little brain of hers and Lizzie can get back to her regularly scheduled recovery.

P.S. You now have us beat. Matt had 3 craniotomies in the first 18 months after he was diagnosed. Sounds like Lizzie has had 3 in just 6 months or so!
