Thanks for joining us on this rollercoaster of an experience - that is exactly how we feel. One minute we're elated and excited, the next we're scared and can't wait for it to end.
Today was hard. Lizzie was extremely lethargic and slept the entire day (minus the half hour when she told off Mickey Mouse, but we'll save that for another day).
She was unresponsive, wouldn't talk, we couldn't get her to awaken or respond...even when they were poking and prodding her...which is rare because she is always grumpy when the nurses come in to bug her.
She had another CT scan which found fluid on the right side of her brain and it was pushing her brain over to the left. Again we felt in a critical situation - they were bumping people out of the ICU and getting us in as soon as they could to get the fluid out. I'm not sure why today felt so much worse than her initial surgery - something told us it may be serious and we needed to be prepared.
We were just heartsick and cried more today than any other day...not sure why...but it's probably because things had been going so well for a couple days and we had such high hopes that they would continue that way.
The surgery was successful and they got the new drain inserted very quickly on her left side. They had to drill a new hole for this drain...they couldn't use the other one since it was all sutured up. Lizzie was unable to receive a sedative for this surgery because she had eaten not too long before and they didn't want to worry about her aspirating. They just numbed the area really well and inserted the new drain...it only took about 1/2 hour total and she recovered in our regular room. She immediately perked up again and said she was hungry - it was a good sign since we couldn't get two words out of her all day.
She ate well and then went right back to sleep. Her heart rate and temp are still high, but we're hoping she will stabilize soon.
Today we just felt so supported by both of our families. We can't say enough about how wonderful they have been - taking our other kids, coming down here a lot, praying, fasting, grieving with us, making sure we're still eating and just all the things that families do. Even though Lizzie's surgery went well, we both just felt quite shaken and we just needed our family around us - it helped so much and we even got a few giggles out of Lizzie again...grandpas have a way of doing that. We also had some dear friends drop off the most perfect gift - you know who you are and we hope you know how much we love you.
Thanks for your prayers today in our behalf. This blog is like our personal S.O.S. we can send out when we need a little extra help and we always get it. Thank you.

I'm so glad to hear the 2nd surgery went so well! And that her Grandpa's got some cute giggles out of Lizzie tonight. I can't wait to hear this story about Lizzie telling Mickey off! What a blessing and comfort your families are and continue to be for you. You do have a S.O.S system here for you, just give the word to any of us and we will be there or do whatever is needed!! I hope this rollercoaster has stopped for your sakes and Lizzie's. Continued blessing and prayers be upon you and your cute lil' family. ;)
XOXO and miss you~Donette
Wow. What a ride your family has been on. We are so impressed that despite the circumstances, your attitudes have remained positive and your testimonies are still intact. We wish your family all the best.

Be strong, hang in there, we are thinking and praying for you and you little one.
It's very late or very early this morning, and as I payed I had a very strong sense that Heavenly Father is aware of all the faith, hope and prayers coming his way on behalf of the Huff's. I know he will hold you both and little Lizzie in his arms and extend the comfort needed until this rollercoaster ride comes to an end and come to an end it will. Continud prayers for your wonderful family.

So sorry to hear about the setback. Our love and prayers are always with you.
you may not get this before I see you, or if I do, my son is also at Primary's and I was thinking of finding you and visiting for a second, and maybe giving Lizzie a gift if you don't mind. :) Keep your chin up, the rollercoaster has to plateau and roll to a stop sometime. :)
