Back to School

Everytime I hear the phrase "back to school" I think of Adam Sandler singing "back to school" in Billy Madison and then his annoying little singing voice is in my head all day!
Spencer started the big 1st grade this week. I had grandiose plans of making school bus cookies, cooking him waffles and a yummy breakfast the first day, but instead I woke up with the flu...Ben made toaster waffles and we gave him a store bought cookie after school (he was none the wiser!)
He is such a good kid, but I think he thinks he's 16. On the second day of school, he decided to not come home because he wanted to play with a friend. He walked home from the bus stop with one friend who couldn't play and then meandered his way to another friend's house who also couldn't play, so then he decided that with nothing better to do, he would come home.

Also that day he held up his middle finger (the big naughty one) and said, "Mom, does this mean a bad word?" NICE! He's in 1st grade! I had to explain that yes, it was a bad word and sometimes symbols mean things, etc. Sheesh, I didn't expect to have to explain these types of things until Junior High! Come to find out...he learned it from the cutest little 5-year-old neighbor girl!

Lizzie starts preschool next week and she can't wait. It's two doors away from us, so that is nice for me! She continues to run the household. Today she told me, "I like our baby (Calli), it's nice. Sometimes it's a stinker though. Our baby is the cutest baby in the world." I loved how she referred to Calli as an "it."

Lizzie also thinks she is all-knowledgeable. She told me this week, "Did you know that french fries are made from chicken nuggets?" I tried to explain what french fries were and she would have none of it...she was right and that was the end of the conversation!

Calli - she is just plain crazy. She throws her food, unloads drawers, climbs in the dishwasher, takes all the books off my bookshelves, unrolls all the toilet paper...I could go on.

I was complaining to my sister about her escapades and Kori told me..."Calli is normal...she is the first normal child you've had." My other kids never did ANYTHING like this - I never buckled them in grocery carts, closed the door to the bathroom or anything because they never tried to escape or get into things. Calli is giving us a run for our money- I love her!

Calli climbing in the dishwasher yet again!

I am so glad you have one normal child. It warms my heart whn people get even just one. Gracie is that for Tausha. My sisters youngest is the same. I am one of the privliged few who have several. Your children are so adorable and Lizzie cracks me up. It was good to see you today.

Funny, I remember when I told my little brother to go show his middle finger to my parents and ask them what it meant. Boy that was funny. I hope this isn't too strange, but if this is Carol that gets these messages e-mailed to you, could you have Ben check his e-mail and get back to me? The Sun Valley director wants his number, but I don't know what it is. Thanks, J.R. Haynie

Calli sounds just like James. I feel like I'm constantly moving, just to stay one step ahead of him.

Your kids are so cute. I can't believe Spencer is in the 1st grade! Holy smokes. I remember at my bridal shower he was so little and became addicted to swedish fish. He couldn't get enough of them. And Lizzie cracks me up! She's so funny.

Calli sounds just like Delaney. The more I lock up the more interesting things she finds to get into. Her latest has been the trash can.

I want Lizzie's Sleeping Beauty dress!

I just read that Monica said Calli sounds like James, can you imagine the three of them together? The next Huff family reunion will be interesting to say the least.
