Better & Better!

We are so happy! Lizzie turned 6 yesterday and we had so much fun as a family. We stayed in Salt Lake at the Ronald McDonald House because Lizzie had doctor's appointments. We took her to Build-A-Bear Workshop - Lizzie has wanted to go there forever. We also made a trip to So Cupcake - seriously worth the drive to 3939 S. Highland.

(At So Cupcake...Lizzie got Red Velvet and Calli got Vanilla, but I have to say that Carrot Cake is the best)

The night could not have gone better. Lizzie's energy levels were good, she felt good and we got to do everything she had wanted to do for her birthday. She told me almost a year ago what she wanted to do on her birthday and would talk about it all the time. After her surgery last week, I kept asking her if she still wanted to go to Build-A-Bear for her birthday and sometimes she would just look at me like this was a new idea and something she hadn't been talking about all year. Her short term memory is still affected and sometimes she can't remember anything about the day before...but hey, neither can I so she's in good company.

(Lizzie helping to stuff her bear)
We told all the kids they could do a bear, but Calli just looked at us disgustedly and said, "I just want my own package of balloons." We were pretty happy spending $2 on her rather than the $ for a bear - she is a funny girl. We often ask her, "Calli, where did you come from?" She doesn't skip a beat and answers us, "From the gypsies." She has said at least 10 times today, "I am so happy I got my own balloons!" We went to the park today and she just happily handed out balloons to every kid that was there - I'm sure in her own little mind they are a huge treasure.

(Our Gypsy-girl who refuses to smile for the camera)
Today we received the best news of all! Lizzie got a CT Scan today and her surgeon said she doesn't need the surgery to get a shunt placed! We are so glad we can now just stay home and concentrate on getting Lizzie's strength and stamina back. We don't have to go back for another CT for 2-3 months so we are very relieved. It now seems like a blessing that she suffered a brain hemorrhage because she is now shunt free and the fluid on her brain is lessening (finally). We are just so glad that she is on the mend and we don't have any surgeries on the horizon.

We are so grateful for our little support system and good friends & family around us. Now...on to trying to recover from severe sleep deprivation :)

that's great!! I'm glad Lizzie had a fun birthday. I'm sure the snickers bar we left for her was not the best idea to leave on your door step to melt! :) O-well. glad everything is going well.
