Lizzie had a good night last night, but woke up pretty sad. She is much more aware of what's going on and is starting to feel a lot of discomfort. She doesn't have many hallucinations anymore...we kind of miss them, they were pretty funny and seemed to keep her in a dream world where she didn't feel a lot of pain.
I can hardly stand to be in the room when the prick her fingers for blood or change IV's. Her little fingertips look like ground beef - I just keep praying that her burdens will seem light and she won't be in too much discomfort.
Surgery today at 12:30. They are going to put a permanent shunt in on the left side of her head. We aren't sure why they are doing it on the left because the fluid is on the right. I know our doctor said they didn't want to operate on the right hand side because of the original surgery that was so traumatic. They think it will still allow the fluid on the right to filter over, hopefully that will work. If not, they will have to go put a 2nd permanent shunt in. We would really like to avoid that, please pray in our behalf that the first shunt will work.
Also, our doctor told us today that Lizzie will not be back to normal for 6-12 months. We know that miracles can happen. And even if it takes that long, we can handle it. We have grown much closer as a result of this and for this we feel incredibly blessed. We also know (thanks to you reading) that we have an AMAZING support system to help us along the way. We are so grateful for our family and friends.
I wanted to post a few pics that Rachael & Casey took while they visited so you can see our little Lizzie, but can't seem to get them to work. Here's a link that will hopefull work if you want to see a few pics (there's one in there of Lizzie before this all happened and a random one of Calli too).

LOVE the pic of lil' Lizzie and her Daddy...PRICELESS!! ;) Thanks for sharing. Thinking and praying for you and your family before Lizzie's surgery today. I have a beautiful scripture to share with you. "Draw nearer unto me, and I will draw nearer unto you; seek me dilgently and ye shall find me" (D&C 88:63) What POWERFUL words, and such HOPE when life gives us trials. This verse continues to help me get through my back surgery recovery. Just wanted to send my love and support to you today and always.

What cute pics of Lizzie! She has the most contagious smile! With everything she has been through I love that she has a smile on her sweet little face! Her poor little hands break my heart! I have horrible veins too but I wish I could be poked for her! I can't wait to hear about the next update, after her surgery letting us know how much better she is doing! She is in our prayers and so are you guys! Keep that smile on her adorable little face! She is going to be back home in no time! Love you!
Prayers for your family today! I hope, hope, hope the first shunt works like a charm! I think the best thing for Matt's progress towards feeling much better after surgery is sleeping in his own bed! Once we finally went home, he slept like a log and that sleep was very restorative. The hospital is the most difficult place to recover! :)
How have Lizzie's sodium's been? Sodium is always the most difficult to get regulated for Matt after surgery!
We'll pray extra hard for her today, and for the doctors and you guys, too. We love you.
Ben, Carol and Sweet Lizzie,
We love and miss you guys so much! Prayers and (((HUGS))) sent your way today that all goes well.
