We are overwhelmed by the many prayers, fasting and well wishes we have received. Many of you have requested updates and we thought we could utilize our blog to send these updates out if we get a minute.
Lizzie is in an MRI right now so we have a few moments...
Here's what's been going on: Lizzie has been sick for over 2 years - we have never been able to find out definitively what was wrong. Her symptoms have only been vomiting up until a few weeks ago. She started having severe headaches accompanying her vomiting and there seemed to be no rhyme or reason to what was happening.
We did more tests, doctor visits, etc. until her wonderful pediatrician, Dr. Stokes, suggested we get a CAT scan. We were going to do that today actually, but Lizzie got so incredibly ill over the weekend that we took her to McKay Dee Hospital where she received a CAT scan there.
She was also severely dehydrated and they had to try 5 times/5 different locations to find a spot for the IV - it was truly horrible. The CAT scans came back and the results were that she had hydrocephalus (swelling of fluids on the brain) as a result of a brain tumor that wasn't allowing these fluids to drain. We took a speedy ambulance ride down to Primary Children's Hospital where they bumped surgeries that were already scheduled to accomodate Lizzie - evidently it's a critical case.
We spent a sleepless night of tests and waiting and now more tests today and if all goes as planned she will have her surgery to remove the tumor and drain the fluids tonight or maybe tomorrow depending on the results of the MRI.
I'm sorry if this sounds so clinical - I just feel so absolutely drained of all energy and really just feel so in shock and numb right now. We are so very touched by the outpouring of love we have felt from your phone calls, texts and visits. The doctor said best case scenario that we will be here 7-10 more days and longer if there are complications.
Please keep your prayers coming, we feel so much comfort and peace and Lizzie has been able to rest comfortably and retain her sweetness through this ordeal. We really need your prayers that all will go well with surgery and that she won't have any lifelong complications from the surgery.
Thanks for your love, it truly has been felt by all of us.
Love, Ben & Carol

Oh my goodness! We are praying for you and thinking of you. Hope all goes well. Love you guys!
Lizzie's so darn cute. Sue fell in love with her last year as her teacher and her little "shy " smile and wave is always a pick me up on some very long days at church; but she has that effect on everyone. With these difficult trials Lizzie is blessed to have her parents and family. Your in our thoughts and prayers and as you know by now the entire ward is ready and wanting to help in whatever way they can. Much love and appreciation!! Bishop and Sue.
